Practical scope guidance
Define the required result before choosing the method.
Property records, site conditions, intended reliance and requested deliverables all affect the professional work involved.
When boundary work may be appropriate
Common reasons include a proposed fence or addition, a purchase or sale, an encroachment concern, uncertainty about existing occupation, redevelopment or a disagreement about a line. Tell us the decision you need to make rather than trying to select a deliverable first.
What the surveyor considers
A boundary is not established from GPS coordinates, municipal GIS or one visible feature. Relevant deeds, plans, descriptions, monumentation, measurements, occupation and the surrounding survey fabric may all need to be reconciled.
Why quotes vary
The amount of research and fieldwork is not determined by lot size alone. Record quality, access, age of the parcel, available evidence, adjoining survey fabric and the plan or monumentation required all affect scope.
